My Car

My car is serial number 035, delivered to her first owner on April 1st, '85. I could convince him after two years to sell it to me, as he was toying with the idea of having one of the six-cylinder engine units built for him. The papers were signed and Nr. 035 became mine on April 1st., '87 (no foolish thing to do) and has stayed with me ever since. My friend is the proud owner of a Ford powered car which I hope to feature in this site soon.
The engine is an evolution of the Chrysler Rootes 1,8 litres motor built by Chrysler and by Volkswagen Argentina until the end of the eighties, and is itself an upgrade of the 1500 cc which powered the Dodge 1500 (Hillman Avenger/Plymouth Cricket), an extremely successful and tireless salon built from '71 until the end of the '80s in Argentina.
My car's engine had been developed by boring it out to two litres cubic capacity, had a special intake manifold and a larger two-barrel Solex carburetor fitted. A custom made exhaust manifold helped it breathe. In spite of a hotter camshaft designed and cut by a leading motor developer, the car can be used in stop and go traffic, although it is at its best on an open road or a highway. The motor has been rebuilt lately, and it is now again a 1.8 litre, but I have retained the bigger carb, the special manifold and the cam. The results have been amazingly good.
The car is aging in a dignified way, and is frequently used to my workplace and back, and also to be part of the trips we enjoy with the friends of the Register.
