Once I had a Seven
In 1983 I was finally able to purchase a Seven, which were again being built locally. This car did provide faithful and dependable daily transport to and from the office , even if rather harshly, but this was also part of the fun. In fact, as from '87 I did alternate the small green monster with the more sedate Antique until it did not make sense anymore to keep both plus a Ford '38 Coupe if no proper care could be provided for all of them. So, the Seven and the Ford changed hands and I kept the Antique. I do, anyhow, miss the car very much, as it never let me down and I did attend several outings organized by our Club and even raced her during the '85 season. Since the engine was 100pct stock, she had the large windshield, the results were nothing spectacular. Besides, you had to consider the driver.....
The engine is, as in the case of many other local Sevens, the 1,8 litre version of the Hillman Avenger's 1500cc Rootes motor, 90 H.P., one barrel Holley carburetor, rather thirsty, but quite able to make her accelerate very fast. It is the very same motor which powers the Antique, but the Seven weighs some 200 Kilos less.
